Tiny State • Tiny Books: Miniature Books in Rhode Island

The enormous field of miniature book collecting was the topic for the RI Center for the Book’s Spring Art of the Book Partnering Program

Anne Bromer, librarian, antiquarian book store owner and author of Miniature Books: 4000 Years of Tiny Treasures, presented an illustrated lecture on the history and design of miniature books at Providence Public Library on Saturday, April 26 at 2 pm.

The 2008 spring Art of the Book Program was comprised of the lecture, which was held in the Barnard Room of the Providence Public Library on Saturday, April 26, 2008, the four exhibits of miniature books from Rhode Island collections at Providence Public Library, North Kingstown Free Library, University of Rhode Island Library, the Rhode Island School of Design Design Center, and the workshop, “A Taste of Tiny Books” held at Rhode Island School of Design Binding studio on the morning of April 26th.

An annual event, the “Art of the Book” programs celebrate the many forms of the book arts in Rhode Island, and bring to the public examples from Rhode Island collections and local artists involved in the book arts. In this fourth year of the program, the partners with the RI Center for the Book at Providence Public Library were the American Printing History Association - New England Chapter, the John Russell Bartlett Society, the Providence Athenaeum, the Graphic Design Department of the Rhode Island School of Design and URI Library Special Collections. The program was funded in part by the RI Council for the Humanities.
